ANCHORAGE — A couple of hours after Gov. Sarah Palin returned to the Outside, as Alaskans call the Lower 48, her local critics swarmed an Anchorage intersection to correct the widespread impression that the whole of the Last Frontier endorses her candidacy.

The midday protest outside a city library drew a crowd in the high hundreds — perhaps surging past a thousand — from the city’s relatively liberal environs, who seemed very happy to see one another and be reminded that they are not alone.

“The whole thing grew out of frustration,” said Charla Sterne, one of the organizers, who like several people at the rally declined to say where they worked (several said they were state employees and feared retribution).

“Last week this was just ten women sitting around talking about this perception that all of Alaska supports Sarah Palin. We apparently hit a nerve and started a movement,” Sterne said.

A sense of festival obtained. There was a woman in a polar bear suit representing “Polar Bear Moms Say: No Palin.” Drivers on 36th Avenue saw a little girl waving a sign “Don’t Ban My Books.”

Maia Nolan, 29, wore a sticker reading, “My Mom for V.P.”

“My mom is from Alaska. She’s a working mother. She’s good looking,” said Nolan. “So she seems to be qualified to be vice president.”

There were also a few score Palin supporters in the mix, most of them alerted to the event by a conservative talk show host.

Eddie Burke of KBYR-AM showed up in person, but while there was no evident friction between the two camps, cheerful chants of “O-bam-ah” effectively drowned out whatever he was saying to the cameras in the center of a mini-media scrum.

PALIN: WRONG WOMAN, WRONG MESSAGE

Here’s the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that even the anti-feminist right wing — the folks with a headlock on the Republican Party — are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-ever female vice president. We owe this to women — and to many men too — who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted violence at the polls so women can vote. We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the “white-male-only” sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.

But here is even better news: It won’t work. This isn’t the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It’s about making life more fair for women everywhere. It’s not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It’s about baking a new pie.

Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh, is no way to attract most women, including die-hard Clinton supporters. Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. Her down-home, divisive and deceptive
speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than
twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned
and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much
everything Clinton’s candidacy stood for — and that Barack Obama’s still does.
To vote in protest for McCain/Palin would be like saying, “Somebody stole my
shoes, so I’ll amputate my legs.”

This is not to beat up on Palin. I defend her right to be wrong, even on issues that matter most to me. I regret that people say she can’t do the job because she has children in need of care, especially if they wouldn’t say the same about a father. I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to compete with Sen. Joe Biden’s 37 years’ experience.

Palin has been honest about what she doesn’t know. When asked last month about the vice presidency, she said, “I still can’t answer that question until someone answers for me: What is it exactly that the VP does every day?” When asked about Iraq, she said, “I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq.”

She was elected governor largely because the incumbent was unpopular, and she’s won over Alaskans mostly by using unprecedented oil wealth to give a $1,200 rebate to every resident. Now she is being praised by McCain’s campaign as a tax cutter, despite the fact that Alaska has no state income or sales tax.
Perhaps McCain has opposed affirmative action for so long that he doesn’t know
it’s about inviting more people to meet standards, not lowering them. Or perhaps
McCain is following the Bush administration habit, as in the Justice Department,
of putting a job candidate’s views on “God, guns and gays” ahead of competence.
The difference is that McCain is filling a job one 72-year-old heartbeat away
from the presidency.

So let’s be clear: The culprit is John McCain. He may have chosen Palin out of change-envy, or a belief that women can’t tell the difference between form and content, but the main motive was to please right-wing ideologues; the same ones who nixed anyone who is now or ever has been a supporter of reproductive freedom. If that were not the case, McCain could have chosen a woman who knows what a vice president does and who has thought about Iraq; someone like Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine. McCain could have taken a baby step away from right-wing patriarchs who determine his actions, right down to opposing the Violence Against Women Act.

Palin’s value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women’s wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves “abstinence-only” programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers’ millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn’t spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

I don’t doubt her sincerity. As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn., she doesn’t just support killing animals from helicopters, she does it herself. She doesn’t just talk about increasing the use of fossil fuels but puts a coal-burning power plant in her own small town. She doesn’t just echo McCain’s pledge to
criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade, she says that if one of her
daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, she should bear the child. She not
only opposes reproductive freedom as a human right but implies that it dictates
abortion, without saying that it also protects the right to have a child.

So far, the major new McCain supporter that Palin has attracted is James Dobson of Focus on the Family. Of course, for Dobson, “women are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership,” so he may be voting for Palin’s husband.

Being a hope-a-holic, however, I can see two long-term bipartisan gains from this contest.

Republicans may learn they can’t appeal to right-wing patriarchs and most women at the same time. A loss in November could cause the centrist majority of Republicans to take back their party, which was the first to support the Equal Rights Amendment and should be the last to want to invite government into the wombs of women.

And American women, who suffer more because of having two full-time jobs than from any other single injustice, finally have support on a national stage from male
leaders who know that women can’t be equal outside the home until men are equal in it. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are campaigning on their belief that men
should be, can be and want to be at home for their children.

This could be huge.

Well, it appears our African-American friends have found yet something else to be pissed about.  A black congresswoman (this would be Sheila Jackson Lee, of Houston), reportedly complained that the names of hurricanes are all Caucasian sounding names.  She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such as Chamiqua, Tanisha, Woeisha, Shaqueal, and Jamal. I am NOT making this up!

She would also like the weather reports to be broadcast in ‘language’ that street people can understand because one of the problems that happened in New Orleans was, that black people couldn’t understand the seriousness of the situation, due to the racially biased language of the weather report. I guess if the weather person says that the winds are going to blow at 140+ MPH, thats too hard to understand.  I can hear it now:

I can just see it now…A weatherman in New Orleans says…

“Wazzup, mutha-fukkas! Hehr-i-cane Chamiqua be headin’ fo’ yo ass like Leroy on a crotch rocket! Bitch be a category fo’! So, turn off dem chitlins, grab yo’ chirren, leave yo crib, and head fo’ de nearest FEMA office fo yo FREE shit!”

No more starving artist title for this guy. There is a man who has found a way to strike it rich. He draws cartoons, and his gimmick is “Will draw anything for $2!”

Sounds like a bargain. For two bucks, he will draw whatever your little heart desires, if you are willing to wait. He has a list that goes back to July 24th. I recommend submitting something that is an inside joke between you and a friend and giving it to them for their birthday this fall, or for Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa.

For those of you fellow Harry Potter fanatics, here are a few interesting HP finds that I have recently stumbled upon. I am sure you are just as excited for the upcoming movie as I am! For those of you who think that being the director of a Harry Potter movie is just as consistent of being the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, rest assured. Since Christopher Columbus directed the first two movies, a different person has directed each of the preceding movies. Until now. David Yates, the director of Order of the Phoenix, has signed on to the do the remaining movies. I am very excited for this. I think he did an excellent job with Order of the Phoenix, and has the right vision and amount of darkness for the remaining pieces of the story. Another exciting piece of news is that they have decided to break The Deathly Hallows into two parts, à la Kill Bill. There are multiple reasons for the splitting of Hallows, and it seems to be a win-win situation for everyone. First of all, the books have gotten progressively longer. The first book, the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone only had 223 pages. The Deathly Hallows has 776 (and the Order of the Phoenix had a whopping 870!) As readers acknowledge and despise, subplots from the books have been cut-out to make room for the important parts of the plot in the movies. With Deathly Hallows being the final instalment of the 7-part story, there are no such things are sub-plots. Every detail ends up tying into some resolution as the story is completed. To keep everything in, a single movie would have been over 4 hours long. And while kids are one of the target audiences (even though the stories have gotten so dark, I wouldn’t let my kids see them if I was a parent since I had nightmares while reading them and I’m in my mid-twenties!), having a movie longer than two and a half hours would be impossible for children, and some adults to sit through. Therefore, Warner Brothers decided to split the Deathly Hallows into Part I and Part II to do the final Harry Potter story its full justice. Fans will be excited to get two movies without important things left out instead of one, Warner Brothers will make bank on the two movies (the first five brought in upward of 4.5billion dollars in box office ticket sales alone) , and all the people involved in creating them will have double the paycheck. And while sources say the reason behind the two-part plan is artistic rather that financial, I’ll leave it to you to decide. Either way, I’m not complaining. The Half-Blood Prince was set to hit theaters on November 21st of this year. However, the date has recently been been pushed back to July 19, 2009 despite the film being completed. A Warner Brother executive says the date push is “to guarantee the studio a major summer blockbuster in 2009″. Also, I bet the success of summer WB films Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) and The Dark Knight (2008) also influenced the decision. Honestly though, when would a Harry Potter film NOT be a blockbuster? Everyone and their mom will be there no matter when it comes out. I apologize for being the bearer of bad news, but now we have to wait an extra 8 months. Anyway, I will try to cheer things up with a little preview or just a refresher — the official plot line (that Warner Brothers released) of Half-Blood Prince:

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simmering with jealousy but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

The Half-Blood Prince looks amazing from the brief trailer that has been released. I am all twitterpated in anticipation. As I already mentioned, David Yates will return to direct the film. Also, the much missed Quiddich makes a beloved return. And of course, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione), Rupert Grint (Ron) and the rest of gang is back again.

In the past week, I have seen more movies than I saw all year. First, I saw the hilarious and ridiculous Pineapple Express, which was hilarious but I think I would have enjoyed it more had I followed my siblings lead of smoking a fatty before the movie. After a while I was thinking there couldn’t possibly be anything else to blow up. And then they found the last item, and 100 others. It was insane. And kudos to James Franco for playing a sexy and very convincing stoner. I am not personally aware of his personal choices, but I bet he doesn’t toke up as often as Seth Rogen does. I enjoy Seth Rogen’s writing (having seen SuperBad and this), but I don’t enjoy seeing him run around in tighty whiteys. Seth, buddy, do us all a favor and keep you pants on.

Next, I saw The Dark Knight for the second time. I was skeptical of seeing it again. I really enjoyed it the first time, but I wasn’t jumping out of my seat saying it was the best movie ever and I needed to see it twenty more times in while it’s still in theatres. The cast is amazing. Hands down. However, the movie’s strengths are Heath Ledger as the Joker, Christian Bale’s looks and the flawless special effects. I did not enjoy how they made TwoFace look. Seriously, if that much of his face is blown away, he is not going to have a fully functioning exposed eyeball. And Christian Bale was pretty to look at and plays an even keeled and witty Bruce Wayne, but my vocal cords hurt just from listening to his incomprehensible raspy Batman voice. It was actually pretty humorous to the point that I had to refrain from giggling almost every time he talked. Also, they kept calling him “The Batman”. It was just awkward. Why not call  him Batman and nix the “The”? But really, Heath Ledger was phenomenal. There is talk that he will be the second person to be nominated and possibly win postmortem (First being Peter Finch of the 1976 film Network). Obviously, it is too early to even think of Oscars, but I hope Ledger is nominated and that he wins.

Tonight I saw the new Woody Allen flick Vicky Cristina Barcelona. First of all, I walked into the theatre not know what I was seeing. I assumed I was seeing some indie film. I mean, I’m not a total idiot. I knew that Woody Allen had a new movie out, but I had NO idea what it was called and vaguely remembered who was in it. I thought the film was fantastic. Woody Allen has done it again. The film is witty and light with a very blatant sexual overtone. And the backdrop being gorgeous Barcelona, makes you want to go find some Spaniard and get swept off your feet. Barcelona has definitely been bumped further up on my list of places to go in the immediate future. Penelope Cruz was hilarious and it was a pleasure to see Javier Bardem looking very sexy minus the awful hair piece he wore in No Country for Old Men (with hair that bad, no wonder he was so angry). Infact, does anyone else think that Javier has a Hollywood twin? Look:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (best known as Denny from Grey’s Anatomy Season 2) and Javier Bardem are practically twins separated at birth. Both sexy. Both with accents.

Anyway, if you haven’t seen these three movies, please do. Especially Vicky Cristina Barcelona. You’ll thank me later.

We all are losing sleep watching the Beijing 2008 Olympics. With coverage all night long, who can shut their eyes during an exciting team table tennis match? And of course we all watched Michael Phelps break every world record and win 8 gold medals, becoming the best Olympian EVER.

And why would you miss the women’s all-around gymnastic finals, wondering if Nastia Liukin or Shawn Johnson was going to get the gold?

America is a group of insomniacs lately. Dr. Nancy Snyderman has some tips for fellow Olympaholics:

1. Stay hydrated.

2. Tell yourself you only need four hours of sleep – really.

3. Wear sunglasses to hide red eyes.

4. Crank up your iPod and listen to anything Michael Phelps does.

5. Skip work (you’re never going to see an Olympics like this again anyway.)

But remember. If you do fall asleep, you may dream about the beautiful male swimmers. Aaron Peirsol may join me in dreamland any time.

I was listening to 98.7 FM the other day while driving around Los Angeles. I am so confused by what they will and will not say on the radio.

They say bitch and ass. Yet in Panic! At the Disco’s hit song “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” they bleeped out the word “god damn” so all you heard was the last part of the word damn. I know that this is considered using G-d’s name in vain, but really, it’s a song people. If you’re willing to call people a bitch and talk about someone being an asshole, then maybe a door can be referred to as “god damn door.” They are only song lyrics!

The former Red Sox player has swapped coasts!

On July 31, 2008, Manny Ramirez was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-way deal. The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Jason Bay, and the Pittsburgh Pirates got infielder Andy LaRoche, and pitcher Bryan Morris from the Dodgers, and outfielder Brandon Moss and pitcher Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.

From 4pm PST to 1pm the next day, eleven thousand tickets were bought to see Manny make his Friday night Los Angeles debut in Dodger blue. I was fortunate enough to attend that sold out game, even though we lost.

Ramirez has always worn uniform number 24, but the Dodgers have retired that number in honor of Hall-of-Fame manager Walter Alston. Ramirez countered the Dodgers suggestion of 28 by suggesting 34, but no Dodger has worn that number since Fernando Valenzuela. After dancing around number 66, Ramirez finally accepted number 99, but the next day asked for 28, the Dodgers’ original suggestion. However, the Dodgers’ marketing department had already begun producing merchandise with number 99, so Ramirez will wear that number. Ramirez has also told manager Joe Torre that he would cut his dreadlocks. So far that has not happened.

In his first game with the Dodgers on August 1, he went 2-for-4. The Dodgers still lost, however, to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 2 to 1.

Surprisingly, the talentless Andruw Jones was still disgracing us with his presense in the outfield and in the batting line-up while the stronger players Andre Ethier and Juan Pierre sat on the bench, only coming in to pinch hit (in which they were both successful). Personally, I don’t care how much money Jones is making, if you can’t deliver, then sit down! In any other business, he would have been canned for not being able to produce results, despite how much money he is being paid. I believe he should give the Dodger fans a chunk of his earnings for having to endure his constant sucking. I have no tolerance for a man who continuously fails to perform.

Manny, however, got his 1st home run with the Dodgers last night, on August 2nd, 2008, in a game versus the Diamondbacks. It was a two-run home run to the left-field pavilion that proceeded to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead, which Los Angeles ultimately won, 4-2. This was the 511th home run of his career.

I have high hopes for the Dodgers new line-up. Manny will not disappoint, although he no longer has the big green monster in left field to assist him. But with the Dodgers current players, I don’t see why they can’t get themselves back into first place and have a shot at the playoffs. Unless Torre continues to pray that Andruw Jones will finally hit the ball and keeps playing him. It’s not a risk I would take, but I’m not Joe Torre. But Jones or no Jones, I finally have some hope for our Dodgers.

Hello! After a bit of a hiatus, I have returned. I apologize for the delay. I just spent almost 6 weeks in the beautiful Bay area known as San Francisco. I intended on keeping up with the blog and rehearsing and touring all at once, but rehearsing from 10am-10pm left me little to no time for computer bliss. So, welcome back to my Rants and Raves du Jour.

Here are some things I learned in San Francisco:

-Bus transfers are actually good for days, not just hours.

-Do NOT say Black&Tan in an Irish bar. Havoc will ensue.

-All the hot guys you meet out, probably have girlfriends or wives. Even if they don’t tell you so.

-A hot foreign accent always makes a guy twice as cute. Even if you can’t understand them.

-Shopping for clothing is considered a travel expense.

-Make friends with your local bartenders. You will reap the benefits.

-When in doubt, partying and touring trump sleeping.

-Take as many pictures as possible. Even if they are just of you and your friends. The landmarks will be there the next time you go, but your friends may not.

-A milkshake can be a very fine dinner.

-One of your most important meals is at 2am. French toast and grilled cheese not only taste delish, but help prevent tomorrow’s hangover.

-When thrown the situation of flirting or taking care of your wasted friend, take care of your friend. There will always be other people to flirt with.

-Always accept a free drink. Just don’t lose your morals because of it.

-Try to meet up with friends from past lives when you are near them. Reunions are always great fun!

-Be adventurous with where you eat. But draw the line somewhere.

-Always look cute. Pictures may be taken.

-Wear comfortable shoes. But not ugly ones. There has to be a happy medium.

and last but not least,

-Be adventurous, have fun, and take all the opportunities that are thrown at you. The last thing you want is to look back at a trip and have regrets of things you didn’t do.

Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) was his final opera. Of all of his works, this opera is one of his greatest and one of the most well-known.

The role of the Queen of the Night, which is sing by a dramatic coloratura soprano is famous for its difficulty. A particularly demanding aria is the Queen of the Night’s “Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen” (“The vengeance of hell boils in my heart”), which reaches a high F. Whether they can sing it or not, everyone takes a crack at this aria:

Florence Foster Jenkins was a wealthy socialite and benefactor of the arts in the first half of the 20th century. She recorded her renditions of classical vocal works to give as gifts to friends. Here she sings Mozart’s aria “Queen of the Night”.

Parrots like to repeat what they hear people around them saying. I wonder who this parrot’s owner is.

Now I don’t know why someone would make a child learn this aria, but listen to this boy soprano. He is very accurate with the pitches and without the dramatic intent, he performs this aria very well in recital format.

Now for the real deal. Diana Damrau is the best I have seen (I haven’t seen everyone one, so don’t be offended if you like someone more.) She is scary as hell and sings the crap out of this aria. Not to mention that she looks fierce.

Well, the first sign you know it’s summer is when the only thing to watch on TV is Reality shows. Not that that’s a bad thing.

The three shows I am watching right now are The Bachelorette (ABC), Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods (MTV), and So You Think You Can Dance (FOX).

Let’s start with The Bachelorette. First off, I think this season has been way more entertaining than previous. I have no idea why they haven’t had a bachelorette in such a long time. Well, I do know the reason. I guess the network thinks that if they put one guy with twenty-five hot girls, men will want to watch as well. But let’s get real. These shows are for women. And women want two things: to be entertained and to watch hot men. For those of you who don’t watch the show, I’ll give you a mini recap:

Deanna Pappas, the Bachelorette, was the last women standing on The Bachelor a year ago. And she and the other woman in the final two were ditched at the last moment. I didn’t personally watch that season. I stopped after they had the doctor from Fort Collins who was so boring I’d rather watch paint dry, and then the Prince Borgesi, who ended up ditching the girl he picked and dating the bitchy one we all hated.

This season has been great watching all the men fight for the girl. There has been lots of testosterone in the air and a couple of bachelor moments that were hilarious to watch. But now it all boils down to the final two. Last week, Jeremy was sent home, which I can’t even begin to express how happy that made me. He was so possessive, walking around like he owned her and falling so head over heels that when he was booted he got super emotional. He was too perfect, and honestly, I think he even might be gay. Anyone who spends that much time in a gym is questionable to me. When he stopped the car on his drive away from the Bahama resort where the rose ceremony took place, I thought he was going to kill himself. But rest assured. He was on the Bachelorette reunion where the men tell all. And he was looking glum, oh well. That’s the game.

Now Deanna is down to her final two. Jesse is a snowboarder who is a chill guy. He would be the kind of guy I would love to hang out with. And there is a lot of chemistry between them, but I’m not sure if it is more of a friendship with infatuation, or a romance. But Jesse is awesome. I feel like she has more chemistry and romance with Jason, the single father. He has been adorable and crushing on her from day one. And they look great together and can just be, which is so important. All I do know, is that Deanna said she is happy, in love, and engaged. If I had to place money on it, I’d say she will choose Jason. But who knows?

The Search for the Next Elle Woods

Now on to a more serious show. Many years ago, Broadway producers decided to start turning popular movies into Broadway musicals. This yielded award winning and/or nominated shows such as Hairspray, Xanadu, Cry Baby, Bride of Frankenstein, The Producers, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels — just to name a few. With the success of The Producers winning numerous awards, especially Best Musical in 2001, and with Hairspray taking home the same Tony for Best Musical two years later, it’s no wonder this trend is in the now.

Legally Blonde opened on Broadway in April 2007 starring Laura Bell Bundy as Elle Woods. After over a year of workshop-ing the show, previews, and performances, Bundy is leaving the show, probably to work on a something new that will hit Broadway in the next year or so. After the success of having an “American Idol” type show to pick the Danny and Sandy to star in the revival of Grease, MTV jumped on the band wagon to find the next Elle Woods on Broadway. They held auditions all over the country and narrowed it down to the final ten. From the get go, there were some I loved, some I hated, and some that just aren’t Elle. But the one I am rooting for the most is Natalie Lander. Natalie and I went to middle school together and were in a group of five girls that hung out constantly. We went to different high schools and began drifting when we went off to different colleges in different states, but she is one of those people that whenever I see her we pick up where we left off. She is extremely talented and adorable (only being 5 feet tall! 9 inches shorter than myself…).

Two weeks ago I went with another friend to watch the show at her parents house with a group of forty or so Natalie fans! It was a blast! We booed, laughed and applauded as she sung and danced and was passed through to the next round. Last week they finally voted off Cassie S. who is a stupid jappy (jewish american princess) diva from Los Angeles. She really just was not talented and had an awful additude. They also did a surprise double elimination getting rid of Celina, the rocker chick. Celina is very talented, but just not right for that particular role. This week they eliminated Emma, who looks a bit like Reese Witherspoon, but came off as an ice queen. I’m sure she isn’t actually a bitch, but that’s what the competition brought out of her. Also, how can someone who wants to be a Broadway star be a smoker? It’s absurd to me.

Now there are five girls left:

Lauren is the youngest of the bunch. She is 18 years old and boy can she belt out a tune. She is extremely talented, but I think she may need a bit more expererience and just worldly wisdom that comes with age before jumping into a Broadway show as the lead.

Next we have Amber, a high energy bubbly girl who has a lot of talent. Her acting is very natural and she has a great voice. She has been one of my favorites for a while now, and even though she has been in the bottom for the past two weeks, I feel she can bounce back and maybe win this thing. I also think that she would look awesome as a blonde.

Also in the running to be Elle Woods is Bailey. Bailey is a southern belle who can get rid of her accent pretty easily when performing the scenes they give her. But Bailey has the “Disney Princess” thing going on which gets boring after a few minutes. I prefer characters to be multi-sided which makes them more human and therefor more interesting to watch. However, Elle Woods would not talk shit about other girls no matter how much she wanted to, and in the confession segments, Bailey is caught putting down her competition quite often.

Rhiannon was not one of my favorites when I first saw the elimination from the 15 to the top 10. But over the course of the show, she’s grown on me. However, she is pretty goofy and comes off as ditsy. Also he performances have never had the wow factor. I doubt she will win the role, but she seems like a sweet person and she is talented, so she will get roles elsewhere once she isn’t so green.

And last, but not least, is my lady Natalie. I am really hoping she wins this. Hands down, she was the best last week for the “Shake Your Junk” dance. And knowing her off the stage, I can only say positive things about her as a person and as an actress. Unfortunately, I can’t give you any information that you don’t already know. She can’t give her friends and family any spoilers of who goes, who stays, and ultimately who will be the new Elle Woods on Broadway. Kuddos to Natalie for making it this far, and here’s hoping she takes it all.

If I had to pick who I would have win, it would be Natalie or Amber. They are the most convincing as the fun, spirited, bubbly girl as well as a Harvard grad student, which are both key components to Elle’s character. Also, being the oldest two of the bunch, they have the maturity and probably more stamina than the others to carry off eight shows a week as a lead in a high-energy show. Bottom line: I hope Natalie wins so I can go watch my friend perform as the LEAD in a Broadway show!

The next show that I can’t shut up about is So You Think You Can Dance. The talent this season is extremely good, and the choreography is great! My one gripe is that everyone has weird names and if your name is normal, or semi-normal, it is spelled strangely. Think about it. There is a Kourtni, Katee, Kherington, Thayne, and Chelsie. The bizarre names from the top 20 are Rayven, Comfort, Twitch, Gev and Marquis. Either they think they are cool by picking strange names or strangely spelled names, or they’re parents were just cruel. But enough about what they are called, onto the dancing!

Mia Michaels, as always, blows me away with each dance she creates. It is truly mind blowing to watch her pieces. They provoke your emotions and dazzle your eyes. This week, she choreographed two dances, one for Kherington and Twitch and the other for Katee and Joshua. Both incredible. My top three couples are Chelsie and Mark, Kherington and Twitch, and Katee and Joshua. I think my most favorite are Chelsie and Mark. They are just awesome in every dance they do no matter what style it is. And they have excellent chemistry, which is crucial to being successful. I also love Kherington and Twitch. They are beautiful apart and together. And they continue to improve each week even though they were awesome to begin with. Katee and Joshua are also in my top three couples. Will is amazing. But his partner Jessica is so blah. Hopefully soon they will get voted into the bottom three couples so that they can give her the heave ho and put him with someone who can match his awesome-ness.

I also am not thrilled but Thayne or Comfort. They are good, but they others are better. So unless they dance amazingly they are going to keep getting thrown into the bottom couples and then will eventually go home. And I won’t care. Just like I don’t care that Kourtni and Matt went home. After being in the bottom three for many weeks, she proved to be a clod and he was just there. Good dancers but not great. However, the other Courtney, Courtney G, and Gev are not the best of the dancers, but they have amazing chemistry because he is ga-ga for her. They are just great to watch, especially last weeks sexy salsa or whatever that was. The ass grab was hot.

The show gets better and better each week, and I was super excited that each pair did two dances this week. More dancing and less commercials is always a plus. Who will win? No clue. As in last season’s finale, Sabra was the underdog to Lacey whose brother, Benji, had won the season before. And she was up against the jumpers Michael and Neil. All four were excellent and any one of them could have won. If the top six is who I want it to be, I have no idea who will win. Will could win it all. But it’s too early to tell. What is obvious though, is that if you dance a Mia Michaels routine, Mary will scream. And I will be happy.

I don’t know if I have disclosed this information about myself in previous blogs, but I am an opera singer. No, I haven’t “made it” yet. I am still young and am working on perfecting and improving upon my talents. It kills me that there are people out there who tour and think they can sing opera. Below is a clip from Sarah Brightman’s Las Vegas “Harem” tour. She beings singing Cavalli’s “Ebben” from La Wally. This is a gorgeous aria. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it. But first of all, opera should not be sung with a microphone, secondly, it should not be excerpted into pop songs, and ABOVE ALL, Sarah Brightman should NOT and NEVER AGAIN attempt to sing opera. And a pitiful attempt at it. However, this video is freaking hilarious! So, enjoy!

BOSTON: At least 17 high school students, many aged 16 and under, are pregnant after apparently making a pact.

Officials in the Massachusetts city of Gloucester said nearly half of those who became pregnant appeared to have entered into an agreement to have their babies together over the year.

“Some girls seemed more upset when they weren’t pregnant than when they were,” Joseph Sullivan, the principal of Gloucester High School, told Time magazine.

A school health clinic became suspicious after seeing a surge in girls seeking pregnancy tests.

Authorities may pursue statutory rape charges against some of the men involved. Some are in their mid-20s, including one man who appeared to be homeless. Others were boys in the school.

In Massachusetts it is a crime to have sex with anyone under the age of 16.

“We’re at the very early stages of wrestling with the complexities of this problem,” Carolyn Kirk, the Mayor of the port city about 50 kilometres north-east of Boston, said.

“But we also have to think about the boys. Some … could have their lives changed. They could be in serious, serious trouble even if it was consensual because of their age – not from what the city could do but from what the girls’ families could do.”

The school forbids the distribution of condoms and other contraception without parental consent – a rule that prompted the school’s doctor and nurse to resign in protest in May.

“But even if we had contraceptives, that pact shows that if they want to get pregnant, they will get pregnant.

“Whether we distribute contraceptives is irrelevant,” Greg Verga, chairman of the Gloucester School Committee, said.

He also said the men should at least be held responsible for financial support, “if not put in jail for statutory rape as the mayor has suggested”.

Teenage pregnancies in the US are showing signs of rising after declining from 1991 to 2005.

Birth rates for girls aged 15 to 17 rose by 3 per cent in 2006, the first increase since 1991, preliminary data from the National Centre for Health Statistics said.

While these young girls prepare for motherhood, I can reflect upon my high school days when the most I had to worry about was who to go to the school dance with, how I could sneak alcohol from my parent’s liquor supply, and what to do on the weekend with which group of friends. Sadly, because they wanted to fit in, these girls will be staying home with morning sickness and say goodbye to their childhood and adolescence the moment that tiny child leaves their womb. I don’t envy their position, nor their stupidity.

I received this video from my dad. I think it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. But don’t take my word for it. Watch it yourself. Grab tissues.

I just took a look through my 8th grade year book. It was hilarious to see how we all have changed. Even though I am not friends with most of the people in there, I am still in touch with many of them through Facebook and mutual friends. Two of my close friends have just gotten engaged, and one is married with twins! It’s crazy how quickly the years have gone by.

Looking back at the faces that used to be familiar, I don’t see a bunch of strangers, but children from the past. I can remember specific inside jokes, who my best friends were, who was in class with me and what teachers I had that year. But those people are gone forever. They have become the young adults that we are today. Yearning for success and happiness, we are trying to achieve more than we ever thought was possible. Money, family, a career and good friends. At the time the fights we had were so huge, the parts I played in school plays were unforgettable, and we were all going to be friends forever. Many of those memories have faded, but I feel so fortunate to look back at this book and see how far I have come, what friends I have kept, and how happy I am today.

One of my friends is dating a guy who received this note in the form of an email from an ex-girlfriend. All I have to say, is that anything you write and email at 4am should not be sent. The following is a perfect example why.

First of all I’m not asking for anything, hinting at or alluding to anything with this message, or at least I’m going to make a sincere attempt not to.. I’m just sending it because I really miss you alot, have been ever since I broke up with you, and just realized some important things tonight because I missed you so much that I went back and reread every message you ever sent me on facebook. well, maybe theyre not that important…they seemed that way to me.. First of all, I don’t know why I never threatened you with death if you were to ever stop sending me those long rambling messages that I absolutely Loved getting. That was dumb of me. Those used to make me soo happy. It was recently pointed out to me that there is a website dissing my gal Sarah Jessica Parker.

Not only was I shocked and appalled, but I was also pissed. All I have to say is that the maker of this site has way too much time on their hands. The site includes side by side pictures of SJP and horses in mimicking positions. Obsess much?

Sex and the City is probably one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I love the witty banter, the friendship between the four women, the sexy men, and of course, the to-die-for clothing, shoes and accessories. Never before had New York been quite as chic. And more importantly, the show made being a single woman acceptable and even glamorous. Everyone I know was enthralled with Carrie and he relationships with Big, Aidan, Burger, Alec, or whatever fling she was with at the moment. We wanted to be Carrie: have a lax job where we can set our own work-at-home hours, an incredible studio apartment in New York City, fabulous clothing, and amazing friends.

Even though Carrie and Sarah Jessica Parker are not one and the same, I feel like I know the actress through her portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw, as well as other roles. She has worked in the business longer than most people her age, making the usually impossible transition from child-acting to adult success look like a piece of chocolate cake. She doesn’t have to be your favorite actress, but I think this is one of the cruelest attempts at poking fun at her.

If you’re jealous of her, you should be. But stop dissing my Carrie!

In today’s world, advertisers know one thing is constant — sex sells. In fact, this idea isn’t new. Old Coca-cola ads showed beautiful, sexy women, in their bathing suits, drinking coke at the beach. This advertising got the point across: sexy people drink coke.

Today, the advertising industry is a multi-billion dollar corporation. If you want people to buy your products, you don’t ask them to, you TELL them to. And the advertising isn’t just on the extra pages of ads in a magazine or during the commercials of your favorite show. Magazine photo shoots and articles are always pushing a products or outfit or gadget. And television shows and even movies, are dropping label names, brand name and places to be like rain falls in Seattle. One of the most popular corporations is no stranger to pushing their product.

McDonald’s has had numerous advertising campaigns throughout the years with a series of catchy slogans. The slogans below are some of the most popular over the past two decades:

1992: What you want is what you get.

1993: Do you believe in magic?

1995: Have you had your break today?

1997: Did somebody say McDonalds?

1990: McDonald’s – It can happen.

2000: We love to see/make you smile. -and – Put a smile on.

And 2003-present: I’m lovin’ it.

While the United States thinks they are liberal with their advertising, everyone who has been to Europe or Asia knows differently. I remember the first time I was in Europe. I was on a trip with 3 of my girlfriends to London. I was shocked when we turned on the television in the middle of the afternoon and saw nudity in commercials and a sexed up version of Goldilocks.

In 2006, China McDonald’s used the slogan “Beef is sexy.” I supposed these ads were meant to show how sexy McDonald’s hamburgers are. But lets get real. When have you gone out to eat and said to yourself “Eating this hamburger makes me feel sexy.”? Yeah, that’s what I thought. While the taste of beef is delicious, ordering a fillet mignon makes me feel sexier than eating a greasy burger.

Another gripe I have with this advertising is how un-creative it is. Micky D’s, you are NOT the first people to make the connection between beef and sex. The 1980’s ad campaign for red meat already did that with the slogan “Where’s the beef?” which did not leave me feeling turned on in the slightest. Even certain members of the male population have equated their, um, male member with this favorite of all red meats.

However, in recent events, Japan has taken sexy beef to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.

At the end of April, a porn film crew was arrested at a McDonald’s in Saitama Prefecture. The story is that the director and three “actors” just strolled in and just started filming in the restaurant. A suspicious customer followed them to their corner and then called the cops. The cops arrested the foursome for indecent exposure and obstruction of business.

Well, all I can say is that sex still sells. Writing this blog has made me want a Quarter Pounder with cheese and some fries. Despite a health hazard, any news is good news for McDonald’s. I’d say that any management team deserves praise for giving the people what they want.

Especially when it’s sex.

TWLOHA (To write love on her arms) is an awareness day for teen suicide, self-harm, and depression. Sunday is national Teen Depression and Suicide awareness and it runs till Friday.

Here are the facts:

“According to the World Health Organization, depression is one of the leading causes of disability, with approximately 121 million people suffering with depression worldwide. The National Institute of Mental Health states that approximately 18 million people suffer from depression in America alone. Depression does not discriminate across age, race, gender, or class. Among teenagers it is estimated that 20 percent will suffer from depression at some point by the time they reach adulthood. There are also as many as 8.3 percent of teens suffering from depression for at least a year at a time, compared to 5.3 percent of the general population.

Between 20% and 50% of depressed kids and teens have a family history of depression and children of depressed parents are more than three times as likely to suffer from depression. (U.S. Surgeon Generalís Survey, 1999)

Depression often co-occurs with anxiety disorders and substance abuse, with 30 percent of teens with depression also developing a substance abuse problem. (NIMH) 2/3 of those suffering from depression never seek treatment.

Untreated depression is the number one cause of suicide, and suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers. (NIMH)

While not always the case, often untreated depression and other struggles lead to unhealthy ways in which we try and deal with the hurt and pain we are feeling. We try and find anything that we can do to take away the hurt, painful feelings, or negative thoughts we are experiencing. Often the things that we turn to seem to help at first, appearing to provide some of the relief that we need so badly. But, even though they may seem like they help, often they are unhealthy themselves, eventually becoming even greater struggles like addictions such as drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, or self-injury.

Self-injury remained very much a mystery until 1996 when Princess Diana revealed that she had struggled with it. It has become much more visible in society within the last ten years.

Self-injury is also termed self-mutilation, self-harm, or self-abuse. It can be defined as the deliberate, repetitive, impulsive, non-lethal harming of one’s self, including but not limited to; 1) cutting, 2) burning, 3) picking or interfering with wound healing,4) infecting oneself, 5) punching/hitting self or objects, 6) inserting objects in to skin, 7) bruising or breaking bones, and 8 ) some forms of hair pulling. While these behaviors pose serious risks, they may be symptoms of a problem that can be treated.

Experts estimate that 4% of the population struggle with self-injury. It has the same occurrence between males and females, even though in popular culture it can appear to be more prevalent among girls.

Those who struggle with self-injury may have many different reasons for their behavior, some of which may be feelings of emptiness, inability to understand or express what they are feeling, loneliness, fear, past abuse, depression, as well as many others. As self-injury, like many addictions, is often a coping mechanism to deal with some manner of internal pain, many who struggle with it also struggle with other issues such as eating disorders and alcohol and drug abuse. While self-injury may be someone’s way to cope with or relieve painful or hard-to-express feelings and is generally NOT a suicide attempt, relief is always temporary, and usually only perpetuates a destructive cycle that continues the struggle. This cycle often means that those who do not get help can become more depressed and shameful, adding to the pain and need for relief, thus perpetuating the cycle.

Dangers: While self-injury may not be about attempting suicide, the damage done while harming oneself ALWAYS carries the risks of inflicting serious, and even lethal, harm to oneself regardless of whether suicide is intended or not. Also the continued cycle of addiction and self-harm, as in substance abuse and other eating disorders can have a destructive effect on one’s health both physically and mentally, and struggles worsen as time continues without treatment.

Self-injury, like alcohol and drug abuse and eating disorders, is addictive, and thus not something that is easy to simply ’stop’.

Help and treatment are available, though at times may be hard to find.

We believe this is true whether someone’s struggles may be self injury, depression, drugs and alcohol, body image issues, sexual addiction, or other areas of brokenness.”

I can’t help but wonder how in a day when everything is super expensive, Old Navy is still priced the same as when I was a kid.

Shorts are 15 bucks and t-shirts are 2 for 15.

I assume people think they are getting a bargain, but the quality has gone WAY down hill.

I grabbed every pair of shorts in the store and ended up buying none. Everything is boxy and lacks tailoring. The details are infantile. The butt pockets would look cute on a baby’s butt, but are not suitable for anyone over the age of 7. My sister tried on a dress that was already ripped inside the store. No sense in finding one that isn’t busted if it can rip just as easily.

I am not a clothes snob in the sense that I will only buy expensive designer clothing. I shop at Target and H&M often and love getting cute clothes for a low price. But when it comes to sacrificing quality for quantity, I will not go for the latter.

I challenge Old Navy: Either raise your prices a bit and start producing clothing that has some quality, or keep your prices the same and let your quality go completely down the toilet.

If they start selling plastic bags as dresses, that will be it!

After being away for five months, I have ventured back to Cali. Since I wasn’t sure when i wanted to return to Boston exactly, I booked a one-way flight on jetBlue. It was my first jetBlue experience. Yes, I’ll admit until last night, I was Blue virgin. And my first time wasn’t only memorable. It was good!!

I decided to upgrade myself when purchasing my ticket to the extra legroom, which was a great call on my part. Even though jetBlue does have the most legroom in coach, a 6 hour flight needs to be extra comfy. I sat down in my cushy seat in row 3 (I enjoy sitting at the front of the plane so I can get off the plane ASAP when we arrive), and got out my reading materials, snacks and headphones. A young man sat down on the aisle and we both lucked out in having the middle seat empty! So far, so good.

The best part about flying jetBlue was I got to watch television. For free. I am so sick of in-flight entertainment. The airline always shows prime time shows I don’t care about, like The New Adventures of Old Christine… come on!, and movies that I would never watch if you paid me. I once was on a plane where they showed Arlington Road. Yes, that’s EXACTLY what I want to watch while flying 40,000 feet in the air. A movie about blowing things up. Anyway, each seat has it’s own TV built into the seat back in front of you. You can control what you want to watch. When I was in college, I used to fly back and forth on Frontier Airlines, and some of their planes had television, but you had to swipe your card (after paying a million dollars for your flight) and there were limited stations. JetBlue got it right. I had 36 free stations of DirecTV at my fingertips. With not one, not two, but three movie choices available for 5 dollars a pop. I chose to watch the free stations since I had literally seen 27 Dresses the evening before (adorable!), and wasn’t in the mood for Jumper nor the other movie.

I also liked that they gave you a choice of snacks. I am personally not a fan of peanuts, and those snack mixes which contain 3 crackers are barely a snack. On jetBlue they give you the option of Munchies chips, cookies, cashews, chips and other tasty snacks. The flight attendants were generous with the drinks and water, and if I had wanted more snacks, they would have given them to me. However, since the flight was 6 hours, i came prepared with a sandwich, fruit and mega water bottle.

Even the two young kids sitting directly in front of me didn’t rain on my parade. The toddler was happy and friendly, occasionally standing up and looking over the seatback to me. And as for the baby, I didn’t realize there was a baby there too until at least halfway through the flight. And I only realized this because I saw her. The parents however could have taken a few lessons.

• Offense 1: Flashers – Parents, I get that your kids are adorable and you want a million pictures of them. And in normal situations like a trip to Disneyland or having a face covered in cake, that is fine. Snap away. However, when you are in the confined space of an airplane, choosing to do a full on photo shoot of “Baby’s First Flight” is not appropriate nor courteous to your surrounding passengers. There were so many flashes going off, that if I had epilepsy, I certainly would have had a seizure.

• Offense 2: Smells Worse Than Teen Spirit – Note: This rule is for all times, not just airplanes. Poopy diapers. If I can smell them, and everyone else can smell them, why can’t the parents? No, it’s not convenient for your kids to shit while you’re in that department store, but put down the Theory dress and excuse yourself and your poopy-pantsed kid to resolve the stench. Use your brain people. Needless to say, being around a smelly diaper is much worse on a re-circulating air airplane than in an open department store. I think you catch my drift.

All in all, I arrived at Long Beach airport having watched two movies on FX, the season finale of America’s Next Top Model, the new episode of Top Chef, and bits and pieces of various episodes of Friends and Family Guy. I recommend that if jetBlue flies to your next point of destination, you book it.

High school is a hard time for many. Having to deal with peer-pressure, fitting in, and getting good grades to get into that Ivy league college so that your parents can brag to everyone they know. In the mean time, your body is going through crazy changes, hair is growing in new places, and your hormones are ragging out of control. Luckily, I am well beyond those years.

For many, all of that cumulates in the most dreaded and celebrated night of your high school life: The senior prom. Personally, I went with a friend in a group of “couples” that were just friends. The whole purpose of having a date is to have a cute posed picture in your gorgeous dress, and have someone to dance with on slow dances.

In past years at Calabasas High School (go Coyotes!), a high school in a northern Los Angeles suburb, a boy asked a stripper to be his prom date, but this is the first porn star, that we know of. This is the real-life story of the movie “The Girl Next Door,” except I doubt she lives next door, and someone probably paid her.

Porn starlet Dakoda Brookes was set up on a blind date to attend the Calabasas High School prom on May 3rd, 2008. The Alabama native said she never had the chance to have a real prom experience and jumped at the chance to go. Her date, Alex, claims he was “a bit terrified and excited”, especially since Alex is still a virgin. Or was before the blessed night. “He didn’t have a date and I said sure, I’ll go,” Brookes said. “I try not to think about what his mom and dad might say about this but it’s really just two teens going to the prom.”

I have no idea if the school is trying to reprimand the student for the possible negative publicity. Since both parties of the date are consenting adults, I doubt there is much they can do.

“Oh my God. When I found out he was a virgin I wasn’t sure if I should go through with it but I wasn’t able to have fun at my own prom so I thought let’s do it,” Brookes said in an interview.

It sounds like prom has gotten way sexier since I left school.

I was in Copley Place yesterday to run some errands (make a return, and drool over the clothing at J.Crew), I hate walking to Copley, because if you walk on the street, it seems like it takes forever to get there.  However, if you walk through Prudential Center, it is a faster walk, but sometimes you can feel like cattle if you get behind a group of mosey-ers. I am a brisk walker, and do not enjoy having to slow my pace for strangers sauntering in front of me.

As I crossed the bridge connecting Copley Place and the Prudential Center, I ended up walking behind two men. Normally these guys wouldn’t even be blips on my radar, but the addition of a bold accessory caught my attention.

I am friends with many gay men, and I understand the style of metros, but NEVER have I seen any of my friends carry a purse. Especially an outdated and ugly one. The purse is a few years old, and even when it was out I remember thinking how hideous it was. The black leather with the rainbow Louis Vuitton print reminds me of something I would have found appealing when I was five. And for 500 dollars or so, it could have been mine.

I definitely chose to pass on that “of-the-moment” trend. I’m not saying all Louis Vuitton bags are hideous, that would be a faux pas. But the rainbow print on white or black leather from a few years ago, was definitely a mistake.

I think the most amusing part of this picture though, is not the bag itself, but what the guy was wearing and HOW he was clutching the bag. It was almost too feminine. Men should be free to carry bags if they want, but I’d stick to a sleek shoulder bag, and not something that makes as loud a statement as this guy’s purse.

Anyway, I had a good laugh, snapped a few pictures on my camera phone to send to friends and went about my business of lusting over clothing.

I don’t know who of you have been watching MTV’s show Rock the Cradle. I normally wouldn’t pay attention to the barely talented kids of has-been rockstars. But when I got an email from Crosby Loggins, who I lived in the dorms with my freshman year of college, I was intrigued. He is the person who introduced me to the music of John Mayer through the song “Neon”. Even before hearing Crosby’s own music, I knew he had good ears. I have followed his career for years and have always been curious why a talent like his has gone unnoticed. While he was tentative to enter this show, due to his desire to be his own person and step out of his dad’s (Kenny Loggins) shadow, he signed on. It was clear from the beginning that his musicianship was the best among the group of rockstars children.

I watched the finale in anticipation. The finale three included Crosby, Jesse Blaze Snyder (Dee Synder’s son) and Chloe Lattanzi (daughter of Olivia Newton-John). The winner was clear to me, but had America gotten it right? Chloe was first to be eliminated, which I was expecting. Honestly, I am surprised she made it this far. After her tone-deaf performance the first week, I expected her to be toast. Now it’s down to the boys. I knew it would be between them from the beginning, Jesse being a crowd favorite because of his crazy performance behaviors, and Crosby being the best musician of the bunch.

And the the winner is…CROSBY!

CROSBY ROCKED THE CRADLE! I am so happy for him. If you haven’t seen the show yet, watch for him. He is a force to be reckoned with.

I knew from the moment I saw the two soldiers together that something wasn’t military “kosher”. Sure enough, the patient and his platoon buddy on tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy were indeed gay lovers. Uncle Sam must be shocked!

I was surprised that the show would approach the topic again, and twice in a row. But since what happened last season with Isaiah Washington’s gay slur towards T.R. Knight which led to Washington getting canned, the writers are obviously embracing their actors and whatever lifestyles they choose to lead. I applaud their dignified actions and their guts.

Also I am always amused when it is scripted to outright call a male character a “whore” as character Mark “McSteamy” Sloan was in tonight’s episode. Hehe.

I have to admit that before the writers’ strike, I was beginning to get turned off to the show due to the outlandish plot lines and the lack of chemistry between the previous sexified characters. Remember, sex sells, and no one was having it. However, I guess the break did the writers some good. They have developed new situations to stir things up at Seattle Grace, while all the while leaving the audience at home wondering when “McDreamy” will get back together with his favorite intern, or whatever Meredith Grey’s current job title is.

While the sight of two men kissing doesn’t turn me on, I do love the gays I know. So bravo Grey’s Anatomy for having the balls to say “Screw you, Isaiah Washington. We like our gays on this show.” Amen.

I love how now that I am at the end of my semester and have all this free time, I can’t do anything I want to.

After a busy day of errand running and working out, I just wanted to go to my school library and listen to some music. For anonymity’s sake, let’s say I go to Wayside School. Louis Sachar rocks. Anyway, even though finals and promotionals are still in progress, Wayside is already on summer hours! It isn’t summer yet! As I handed my school ID to the man at the library asking for a CD, he said “I’m sorry. But we are already on summer hours and we close in 5 minutes.”

Pfffttt. So much for my brilliant plan. I guess I’ll try again tomorrow, now that I know how sideways Wayside School is. If my life always worked out as I planned, I guess I’d have nothing to blog about.

Greetings! After much debate, here I am. A head full of ideas, eyes that lust after beautiful things, and a voice sent from heaven. This is my first blog. Well, sort of. I tried to travel blog when I was in Italy for a month, but decided that wasting my time paying for internet access at an Internet Cafe (which served no food. I know, right?) was ridiculous when I was in Roma! So, that was the end of that. However, I think now I have something to say. It may be trivial to you, but I don’t care. I have been convinced that I am funnier than I give myself credit for. And if I’m not, oh well. Make your own blog and complain about mine if you must.

And now to explore and create. Stay tuned.

After months of the writers strike, television has resumed. Most of my favorite shows are back on the air with new episodes to continue the plots that were rudely interrupted by greed and egos in the fall.

Yet it seems the hiatus has yielded some unoriginal ideas. Within the last week, three shows have outed or made reference to a gay character.

First, on ABC Thursday night, Kate Walsh returned as Addison to Grey’s Anatomy (since her new show, Private Practice, won’t air again until the fall). Suddenly the friendship between fellow doctors Callie and Erica went from cheerful to queer-ful when Addison raised awareness of the situation to Callie and the audience at home. Since when can two women not just be friends?

Fast forward to Sunday night. Brothers & Sisters (also on ABC) has another tremendously drama-filled episode where the shit hits the fan once again. There is so much chaos that no one flinches when Uncle Saul (played by actor Ron Rifkin) comes out to already gay nephew Kevin. I don’t know if I was underwhelmed due to the already mentionings in several previous episodes of Saul’s possible gayness or the incestuous feelings between a brother and “sister” while the family business is in trouble… again. But the outing of Saul was predictable and probably the event that occured that I could care less about.

Finally, the CW wants in on the gayness. In Gossip Girl (which I am addicted to mainly because of the beautiful people AND clothes) the lives of high school students has never been so complicated. Forget about the SATs and drivers licenses, these kids have real problems: who is the most popular, what to wear, and where to be seen in the illustrious city of New York. After weeks of feuding, Blair and Jenny have their final war. And young Jenny’s reputation is mutilated. Yes ladies and gents, not one, but TWO men are outed: Serena’s (Blake Lively) younger brother, Eric, and his AND Jenny’s boyfriend, Asher.

This is not the first time writers have synced their storylines (Series finale of Friends, where Rachel forgets about Paris to stay in New York with Ross and her friend vs. Series finale of Sex and the City, when Carrie ditches the Russian in Paris to return to New York to be with Big and her friends) yet, to air all in the same week was pretty coincidental.

Either way, gay or straight, I’ll continue watching these flamboyant shows.
